A book of childrens poems
Illustrations by Arnold Taraborelli
Hildegarde, a hippopotamus fair,
With knobbly brown skin and a hair here and there,
Had warts on her nose and a sort of a flair,
For lying in mud with never a care.
On the steep river bank beneath the sun's glare,
At her lovely reflection for hours she would stare,
And, head on one side, would fondly declare,
Hildegarde H, you're a lady most fair.
Most fair, a lady most fair.
She was very vain.
